Recruiting Trends 2023: From exciting to diverse

  • Post category:Blog

They say that recruiting is a bit like dating – you look for the perfect match, think about how you present yourself and hope that a successful relationship will develop in the end. However, in times of a shortage of skilled workers, recruiting is more challenging today than it used to be because it has become more difficult to find suitable talent. Since the Corona digitalization push, recruiters have therefore had to take a more complex, digital and creative approach in order to find enough top talent. With the Recruiting Trends 2023, we present the most promising methods for successful talent acquisition in order to remain competitive in the long term.

The Most Exciting Recruiting Trend 2023: Digital and AI-Supported Recruiting

At least since the hype around Chat GPT, AI-supported tools in recruitment have been an important recruiting trend in 2023. AI-powered tools make it easier to search for candidates, for example, by automatically evaluating resumes or matching candidate profiles with the requirements of the job in order to filter out the most suitable candidates. As a result, application processes can be made faster and more efficient and more reliable predictions can be made about the suitability of candidates. This saves time and allows you to focus on the highest quality candidates.

Chatbots will also be used more frequently in 2023 to answer candidates' questions and speed up the hiring process. Gen Z candidates, in particular, like to playfully use a chatbot to quickly get information about vacancies and the application process. As a result, companies can save time and resources, reduce response times, and speed up the hiring process.

Since the Corona pandemic, many companies have been conducting the first round of applications via online interview – and thus saving time and money by eliminating the need for travel distances. This also speeds up the application process. The more frequent remote offers also increasingly appeal to candidates who will not work on-site later on. This also increases the possibility of creating a talent pool when national borders and travel times are eliminated.

The most obvious recruiting trend in 2023: Mobile recruiting is in demand more often

Not without my smartphone: More and more applicants are looking for jobs via their smartphone or tablet. According to the current Monster Insights Study 2022, one in three would like to find out about job offers via smartphone and also apply directly via them. Therefore, an obvious recruiting trend in 2023 is towards mobile applications. Companies are well advised to introduce mobile application options and optimize their career sites and job openings for mobile devices, because an easy-to-use mobile application option is an important factor in attracting the best talent. Responsive design and user-friendly navigation are essential to improve conversion rates – and thus the recruitment of new talent.

The aim is to make it as easy as possible for applicants, which is technically easy to implement. Via Social Connect, applicants can share their personal contact and CV data from Xing or LinkedIn and thus no longer have to fill out forms or upload documents.

Companies can also offer a mobile-optimized short form on their careers page. Job boards often offer to store an "Apply now" button in the job advertisement, which candidates can use to apply with little data, often stored on the job portal.

If companies convey to applicants that mobile applications (even without a traditional cover letter) are considered equivalent, they lower an important hurdle in the application process. This message is important to reach more candidates.

Mobile recruiting also includes the trend towards WhatsApp recruiting, in which interested parties apply via a button or QR code in which they can answer their first questions in an automated WhatsApp interview and thus communicate their interest in a job. The built-in matching process ranks the applicants in the order of their matching answers and scores above all with speed and a low-threshold entry hurdle.

The smartest recruiting trend in 2023: Sellcruiting thanks to strong employer branding

Instead of simply offering jobs, one recruiting trend in 2023 is towards so-called "sellcruiting". In times of a shortage of skilled workers, the aim is to convince potential talents of the advantages of a career in their own company, i.e. to "sell" the job to them, so to speak. Sellcruiting is a combination of selling and recruiting, where recruiters become salespeople of the job.

First of all, it is important to know the target group in order to be able to make them a suitable job offer. Recruiters must therefore ask themselves

  • who you want to address,
  • what attracts the talents of tomorrow and
  • which values and prerequisites could be important to them in their job and company.

The job interview is increasingly becoming a sales pitch by presenting the benefits of a career in the company and the points in favor of the company in order to convince applicants. In the course of the recruiting trend "sellcruiting", companies should therefore consider what distinguishes them as an attractive employer and convey this to applicants, e.g.:

  • What values and culture are lived in the company? What kind of change does the company bring about in society?
  • Is an open and positive culture of leadership, feedback and error lived and promoted in the company?
  • How is employee engagement encouraged and teamwork supported? Where can the talents get directly involved?
  • Does the company support the work-life balance of employees? This can be achieved, for example, through flexible working hours, remote and hybrid work, and opportunities for sabbaticals.
  • Attractive benefits, training, development and career opportunities also attract committed employees and promote the motivation to apply here.
  • In the course of selling cruiting, applicants also appreciate personal conversations and relationships, a safe and appreciative working environment and flexible working conditions.

Very important: no false promises! Companies need to present themselves authentically and thus ensure that no false expectations are created among applicants. What's the point of hiring talents who then throw in the towel disappointed after a few weeks?

Strong employer branding supports the sellcruiting trend in order to position oneself as an attractive employer in an industry or location. This can be achieved, for example, with innovative and collaborative work cultures and individual development opportunities. If you are perceived as a sustainable, inclusive and socially responsible employer, you will be able to achieve a strong presence in the industry and be perceived as an interesting and exciting employer. In this way, it is possible to attract qualified talents to the jobs on offer, which also fit well with the corporate culture and support the growth targets. Employer branding may not be a new trend, but it will become more important in the future. After all, hiring employees who align with the company's values and goals is key to a successful organization.

Tip: Employer branding – and thus also sellcruiting – is also an important lever for smaller companies! Since they don't have the same resources and notoriety as larger companies, they can stand out from the competition or other companies thanks to a strong local employer brand. Word of mouth and positive recommendations from employees who work in the local environment also help.

The Most Far-Reaching Recruiting Trend 2023: Social Media Recruiting and Corporate Influencing

In order to make one's own employer brand known to the public (and to potential candidates), social media representation will continue to play an important role in recruiting trends in 2023. Companies should also use their corporate channels in social networks for social media recruiting. This allows them to improve their employer profile and get in touch with candidates directly. Through the company's social media presences, companies can provide authentic insights into what is happening in the company. This is precisely what young professionals in particular appreciate.

Above all, the company's own employees as corporate influencers can provide authentic insights. After all, satisfied and enthusiastic employees are the best (and most credible) company ambassadors. By sharing situations and experiences from their everyday work, they provide undisguised insights into the company. At the same time, they improve the company's visibility on social media. They help strengthen the employer brand and help build a community of prospects who identify with the company and its values. At the same time, corporate influencers can draw attention to vacancies in the company and encourage interested parties to apply.

Tip: With appropriate guidelines and targeted training, companies can encourage their employees to talk about their work and the company on their own social media channels in order to use them as advertising ambassadors.

The most diverse recruiting trend in 2023: Time for more diversity and inclusion

The world of work is constantly changing and creating new requirements. Companies with diverse and diverse teams can respond to this more easily and easily. This is because they benefit from the different perspectives, experiences and backgrounds that their employees bring to the table. Those who work with people from different cultures, genders, age groups and with different abilities tend to find more innovative solutions. In addition, diverse teams can better respond to the needs of different audiences and thus develop more successful products and services. So if you don't focus on diversity and inclusion in the future, you run the risk of falling behind in the ever-changing demands of the world of work. This is because these requirements require new perspectives and approaches, which can best be covered by a diverse workforce.

Candidates are also increasingly appreciating a diverse and inclusive work environment in which diversity is embraced and no one is discriminated against. With such a working environment, a company attracts more talent and has a better image as a socially responsible employer that is aware of its responsibility in society.

Therefore, another important recruiting trend in 2023 is towards greater diversity and inclusion among candidates to ensure that companies attract and hire a wider range of candidates. This is because they are better able to cope with the different needs and challenges of the working world of today and tomorrow.
